WANTED A CAREER HELPING PEOPLE
Reid Matsushima began his career with Northwestern Mutual Financial Network by chance. "I was looking for a paid internship while I was in school. I was hoping to find a company who would train me properly and allow the opportunity to actually work with people... I had no idea who Northwestern Mutual was," he said. Reid applied for an internship with The Waltos Group in Newport Beach among several different financial services internships. As he went further into the interview process, the more he liked Northwestern Mutual's core values and proven track record. The idea of immediately building his own practice from the ground up exactly as and alongside full-time representatives sealed the deal. It was only after Reid became an intern did he find out that The Northwestern Mutual Financial Network was named as having one of America's "Top 10 Internships" twelve consecutive times since 1997 according to Vault Guide to Top Internships, 2008 edition (formerly the Princeton Review).
EARLY STARTER BUILDS A SUCCESSFUL BUSINESS
After graduating early from University of California, Irvine, Reid became a full-time Financial Representative. In his first year full-time with the Northwestern Mutual Financial Network, Reid earned the Bronze and 75 Lives awards, which are given to representatives in their first year for successful business growth. Reid also received the company's acclaimed Pacesetter 1st 40 award for production in his first six months full-time. Reid moved his practice home to Hawaii in December 2005 and continues to work with his clients in California by making annual trips for reviews. He earned the Silver and Ruby Awards, given to representatives in their second year for continued successful business growth. Reid also received the New Client award given for substantial new client growth, as well as the 75 Lives award again. Reid has enjoyed building his business since he became an intern. Reid has consistently had his best years ever in investment and insurance production every single year since he began with Northwestern Mutual. This growth is founded from Reid's passion to help people in needs based solutions and achieving financial security.
LOOKING TO THE FUTURE; REID IS LOOKING TO EXPAND HIS EXPERTISE
On top of continuing to build his business, Reid began 2009 continuing to work on completing several professional designations, be an active participant in the L.E.A.D. program, and and work as the College Unit Director for The Hawaii Group. The L.E.A.D. program is a leadership program designed to identify and develop individuals who are successful in their careers and who are motivated to help others succeed. The program is designed as a progressive curriculum. Financial representatives are invited into the program by their Managing Partner or Managing Director. Currently, Reid has been working with The San Diego Group to build an internship program from the ground up in the Hawaii office. The college program will concentrate primarily on developing successful, motivated students from schools all over Oahu. It will also have the advantage of allowing college students with Southern California and Hawaii ties a seamless transition to move back and forth.
